Fashion show!

The school show was Saturday. It was a blast. Everything worked out really well and I'm pretty happy. There were a few minor issues with hair/make. I should have brought my own bright colors, as I wrongly assumed Mac would have stuff like that. Only two dressing mishaps that hopefully no one noticed. And my models were awesome about wearing my very silly clothes!

Dr. Seuss collection!

and a few more... )

Only, after the show, my legs started burning... and the next day I woke up with hives. I have no clue what the hell caused it. Yuck. Right now they're all over my feet... they're so swollen it's hard to walk on them.

Sorry... Soundtrack

I dunno, these can be fun. I've done it before though. I changed a few because I can't translate the Korean, Chinese, Hindi, whatever. Japanese songs have translations (which may or may not suck)

---
If your life were a movie soundtrack, what would it be?
How to do it:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc).
2. Put it on Shuffle.
3. Press Play.
4. For every question, type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Be honest - it works itself out on its own.

Happy Valentines Day (belated)

"Polly" is at Hyaena gallery

I meant to write a Happy Valentine's Day post, but I procrastinated... Hope it was nice for everyone.

We went out to sushi at Mijuri... without reservations. There were a bunch of people standing at entrance and they said no tables would be open until 8:30. (It was 6:45) We waited while everyone else left and they gave us a table once one opened up! That is the power of being a regular. Makes me want to sing the Cheers theme.

Then after stuffing ourselves thoroughly, we went to Andy's and got ice cream. We came home and ate our ice cream while Nick serenaded me with such classics as William Shatner's rendition of Rocketman.

Then I fell asleep really early because I had eaten too much.

Thrift store love <3

I just wanted to post a picture of my new buddy that I picked up at the DAV thrift store over the weekend. They were devoid of cute clothes in my size (and oh, how I need new warm things. I heard it's supposed to snow! eep!)

But they did have this little guy. He makes me smile.

Now back to cleaning so he has a place to live.

In which I lose steam

After discovering the brand new liner brush I picked up at National Art under a pile of sheet protectors with the brush part half-snapped off, I decided I needed to clean.
This was after painting a little bit. The brush is still hanging in there, and I need to see if I have some super glue to patch it up.

My first task in cleaning is, of course, to make a much larger mess. I threw all my sewing supplies on the ground (let's hope I don't step on pins.) in order to move my old sewing desk (also known as a bookcase, 'cause that's all I had) and make way for my new sewing desk, courtesy of Nickerdoodle's mom.

More stuff had to be thrown out of the way to make way for the bookcase to take its rightful place as an actual bookcase. It was promptly filled. I love bookcases.

That was last night. There's no walking space on the entire right side of the room. I don't WANT to finish. I WANT to sew because my new desk looks so nice. But I can't fit over there. *pout*

I need to:
shower
make bento
work on my report for technical writing
dig out my big newsprint pads for illustration
drop off rent checks
finish a drawing I began last night
OH, AND CLEAN

This guy goes to a new home today. <3

YEAH!

I now have some art up at Hyena Gallery. Exciting! Go check it out, and while you're there check out more art from really brilliant people. (Including my ever-awesome brother, Big Tasty. He's getting married! Buy $20 doodles!)
Yay!

Week 1 in LA

I am having a rather quiet and uneventful vacation. Not bad at all. All I need is a trip to Little Tokyo and a maybe a trip fabric shopping. (Oh, so broke...)

The bachelorette party/ weekend was fun. It actually found me in a swimsuit. I slathered on the sunscreen though, so I'm still super-pale. And I believe it marks my first consumption of "huge black cock-cake." eh?

I need to quit doing nothing and go do something.
OKAY!

the return of domestic kAt

Nick's back. And I'm back to cooking dinner regularly and other such chores. It's probably a good thing since I guess I lost weight? I didn't think I was that bad about not eating, but he keeps telling me how sad he is that I look so skinny and frail. I don't have a scale, but I measured my waist... and I'm almost an inch below what I usually am. Time to start stuffing my face so I don't go all anorexic on everybody.

Damn, I'm tired. Nick's on Japan time, and I'm on reclusive loner time. But we both ended up falling asleep at about 11. And kept waking up. Me, because I'm used to going to bed at 4 am. He, because he was crazy delusional and didn't know where he was. And then we got up at 5 am. I want to go back to sleep, but half the bed is covered in action figures and I need to cleeeean, and hope to find time to draw.

I'm off to get motivated.

oh the joys of looking twelve

I helped my mum and aunt garden yesterday. We stopped at Sonic beforehand. As the carhop was delivering our tasty treats, (Orange Cream-slush yay!) she remarked: "I love your hair. When I was your age, I used to dye my hair like that all the time." Somewhat taken aback, I look at her more closely. Perhaps... But no, at the MOST she is my age. But she really seemed to be in high school. My aunt found it hilarious.

I thought maybe... just maybe... she looks younger than she is too. (But that's unlikely, every time I estimate someone's age, I go way too high.)

Oh well. At least I am easily amused by making my boyfriend look like a pedophile when we're in public.

In which I post pictures

This is my house! (i'm bad at pictures. very few of them are actually "house-y")

What I see outside. Part of me likes the creepy suburb, everything's exactly the same feel.

And more! )

Back!

I've decided to stop neglecting lj. Must spread my tentacles into as many corners of the 'net as I can.

So, almost a year's worth of life updates:
hair is pink.
became a nerd. a tabletop gaming nerd.
found a boyfriend. a computer scientist boyfriend.
moved in with boyfriend.
boyfriend is in japan for three weeks, i'm jealous!
neighbors are blasting techno music at all hours of the night. dudes!

And... that's... it?
Sweet. (i have also begun to use the word "sweet." while phasing "awesome" out of my vocabulary is a good thing, i'm not sure i like this replacement.)

I've been updating over at Myspace. Not so much here.

I've just been hanging out in Hollywood with my brother and Audra. I've been working some and it is pretty freaking miserable. Audra and I signed up for Central Casting to do extra work. So far we've been working on the season finale for Monk. It's out in the desert, so it's like a hundred degrees, and we have to stand in the sun all day and pretend to rock out. I guess it sucks as much as any job does. I'll do it for a few more days and then try for something else.

The weekend has been sitting down and doing nothing to the best of my ability. I take naps, and I should do it professionally. I'm good at it.

I really really really want to go shopping. I just feel that urge. I feel the need for new socks... and a camera.

Adventures

Guh... It is... Sunday? I think? I haven't been on the internet since last Friday. Now I'm in the suburbs of Chicago in my cousin Emma's apartment and there appears to be wifi. Do you feel my joy?
Summary of the past week:

Friday: Left around noon. Drove for... 9-10 hours. Arrived at Uncle Bob's house in Madison about 10. Slept on the floor in a sleeping bag... without a pillow.

Saturday: woke up ungodly early. (Sore, because I didn't have a pillow. Then noticed the pillows sitting on top of a table. *facepalm*) Family gathered in Bob's house. We set off for the Breast Cancer walk. Met everyone else. Walked. We'd planned to walk 5K, but we decided to just stay with the group and went 1 mile. Changed. Met in a park somewhere for David's graduation party. There were veggie burgers to be had. I hid during the dodgeball game. Went back. Napped. Went to the hotel where everyone else was staying and had pizza.

Sunday: Woke up... early. We had a breakfast. I ate donuts and a smoothie. Then there was a belated birthday party for my dad. They had a sort of memory box, since he's 50. Dad was crazy. Later we went down to State Street and walked around. I bemoaned the fact that Missouri State has such a boring campus. We went back and had pasta.

Monday: Dad took the car to get fixed. We hung out in Borders until it was. Then we left for Minneapolis. Arrived at Uncle Mikes. Had a salad. Ethan and I got to sleep in the toy room. Awesome. Teresa let me borrow The Time Traveler's Wife, which was pretty good.

Tuesday: Woke up... not too early. Got dressed and read, waited for Theresa to get home. Then we went to Uptown. Walked around. There were some cool stores run by local designers. One was closed on Tuesdays. (what the hell?) At the other I got a pair of shoes on sale. Apparently they were the last ones they had and they didn't fit anyone. Fit me perfectly. I'm Cinderella! Then we went to an antique store. They had a lot of bad art. I think every other piece was of a naked guy riding something. Naked guy riding a horse. Naked guy riding a goat. Naked guy riding a donkey. Naked guy riding a bird. I'm not kidding. I would have bought one of the prints, but they were mounted really ugly-ly. They didn't even try to cut in a straight line. Then we went to the museum and saw the Bodyworks exhibit. Cadavers in various poses. It was AWESOME.

Wednesday: Woke up. Got ready. Drove to Aunt Mary's place in... I can't remember where she lives. Pembine? Out in the country. Day one of the Cheese Ravioli fest.

Thursday: Woke up. Met Aunt Joanne in town for pasties. Saw a waterfall. Went to Joanne's place to hang out. Went back to Mary's. Day two of the Cheese Ravioli fest.

Friday: Woke up. Drove to Aunt Michelle's place in Oshkosh. Went to a Tiffany glass exhibition. Then to an antique store. Then to a restaurant on the lake. Day three of the Cheese Ravioli fest.

Saturday: Woke up. Drove to here. (Chicago burbs.) Went to a pizza restaurant to conclude the Cheese Ravioli fest. I bought a sweater, because it's cold. Tried to sleep on the couch while Mum watched the Exorcist (the beginning? The newer one) It was loud.

Sunday: Woke up. Got ready. Drove to the train station. Mum was cranky. Went in to Chicago downtown. Went to the Art Institute. Went to the Blues fest. Ate icecream. Went back. Mum was still cranky. Hung out. Ate cheese fries. Packed. Found out that there is Wifi. Rejoiced.

Tomorrow: Will drive to St. Louis. Will hang out until 7:00. Will get on a plane to L.A.

I will be in L.A. until mid-August.

Very spring

It is so very very springtime.

Good: Lilacs, violets, and just about everything else is in bloom
Bad: The wasps are EVERYWHERE in this house. They frighten me.

Good: Nice temperature. It is supposed to be 90 or something, but it isn't.
Bad: Excessive sunlight. Not my friend.

Good: Summer vacation is approaching.
Bad: Summer is hot. And bright.
Bad: Finals are approaching, along with papers and paintings and speeches.
Bad: I have no job and thus no money. But I don't want to get a job with just one hectic month of school left.

Good: Birds. The mockingbirds and redwing blackbirds are back. The cardinals are still hanging around. The robins on campus give me strange looks. And sparrows are flitting about. Birds make me happy.

Good: I have about 12 episodes of Magiranger to watch. Okay, that has nothing to do with spring. But it is good.
